Information and Enrollment
Thank you for your interest in Sunshine School. If you are a returning student, we are looking forward to seeing you back for our 2008-2009 school year. If you are new to our school, we would like to let you know some details about our program.
PHIILSOPHY
We believe that preschool is an important part in a child’s development where they can learn social skills and important foundations of academics. These skills are essential in preparing children to enter Kindergarten and other educational opportunities. In addition to these skills, we also want to teach our students to love God’s Word, develop positive attitudes and to treat others with respect.
CURRICULUM
Our curriculum is highly individualized to meet the needs of the children at their stage of development. From the Nursery classes up to our Pre-K, children spend time in different activities teaching them letter recognition and sounds, awareness of numbers and shapes, pre-reading skills and sight word recognition. Our curriculum uses many “hands on” activities such as cooking, creating crafts, painting and drawing to make learning fun.
Children in our 2 year old classes through our Pre-K will have a monthly Bible memory verse. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” We believe children are never too young to memorize scripture and develop a desire to learn God’s word.
TEACHERS AND CLASS SIZE
Sunshine School is blessed to have a loving, caring group of women to serve as our team of teachers. Teachers in our 4’s and Pre-K are all certified teachers, many of whom have teaching experience in public and private schools. We strive to keep our classes small so that children and families receive close, personal attention from the teacher. If you have questions about the student/teacher ratio for your child’s age group, please call our office.
SCHEDULE AND CLASSES
Classes are conducted every Monday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We do not accept children prior to 8:55 a.m. This enables our teachers and staff to prepare for your child’s arrival. Please pick up your child promptly at 2:00 p.m. Many of our teachers have family obligations of their own that require them to leave school in a timely manner. There will be a $5.00 late fee for children picked up after 2:10 and $1.00 per minute thereafter. Parents of children in the 2 year old classes through Pre-K may use our carpool line for drop-off and pick-up beginning the second week of school.
A schedule of the day’s activities will be posted in each classroom. Each class in our 2 year old program through the Pre-K participate in the following activities:
Chapel: During Chapel time the classes walk to the large auditorium in our building. They spend time singing songs together. Children are also taught a lesson from the Bible and end the time in prayer.
Music on Mondays: Music time children are able to express themselves through singing and learning new songs. Children are able to experiment with age-appropriate musical instruments such as bells, rhythm sticks, drums and more.
P.E. on Thursdays: This time allows children to release energy through group play. Teacher-led games provide the opportunity to take turns and follow rules while practicing gross motor skills such as running, skipping, jumping and kicking.
Spanish: On Mondays, children get to visit the Spanish room. Here they learn songs and simple vocabulary, color words and counting…all in Spanish!
TUITION AND ENROLLMENT
Children will be placed in the appropriate class based on their age by September 1st of the school year. Students entering the 3 and 4 year old classes MUST be potty trained by the beginning of the school year.
Tuition is $145 per month and must be paid by the 10th of every month. Tuition paid after the 10th should include a $10 late fee. Make checks payable to Prestoncrest Church of Christ with Sunshine School in the memo line.
ENROLLMENT, SNACK AND SUPPLY FEE
The $100 enrollment fee covers all snacks and supplies.
LUNCH AND BELONGINGS
Clothes that are easy to wash and sturdy shoes like tennis shoes are best for school. We do not allow cowboy boots with pointed toes or high heeled “dress up” shoes as these can cause potential accidents. PLEASE LABEL ALL BELONGINGS. This includes jackets, sippy cups/bottles, lunch boxes and backpacks. In addition to a drink for lunch, children should bring an empty sippy cup to school each day for water or lemonade. A snack will be provided mid-morning of each school day.
Please send a change of clothes in a Ziploc bag in case of an accident. Children in our Nursery, 2’s and 3’s classes will have a rest time at the end of the school day. Please provide a comfortable nap mat for the children to rest on. They will be allowed to rest with one item from home such as a pillow, stuffed animal or blanket.
ILLNESSES POLICY
Please keep sick children at home – this includes runny noses and bad coughs. CHILDREN SHOULD NOT COME TO SCHOOL UNLESS THEY HAVE BEEN FEVER FREE OR HAVE NOT HAD VOMITTING/DIARRHEA FOR 24 HOURS. If your child has exposed other children to a contagious illness (including stomach viruses), please let the directors and teacher know so that in addition to our normal cleaning, special care can be taken to disinfect toys and furniture in the classroom. If your child becomes ill at school, you will be contacted to make arrangements to have your child picked up from school as quickly as possible.
PARTIES
Parents from each class will be asked to volunteer to help with classroom parties. These include a Fall Party, Christmas Party and Valentines Party. We will a have a school-wide Fall Fun Day in October, Easter Egg Hunt in the spring and End of the Year Summer Fun Day in May. Parents are always welcome to volunteer for these and other activities!
You are welcome to bring treats the entire class to celebrate your child’s birthday at school. Invitations to birthday parties away from school will not be distributed at school unless everyone in the class is invited.
BAD WEATHER
We all know the weather in Texas is quite unpredictable. In the event of icy roads or inclement weather, check your radio or TV – if Richardson ISD is closed or has a delayed start time, Sunshine School will not meet.
